10 Teams In 10 Days 2013-2014: Rank #3
At #3 in the rankings we have the San Antonio Spurs. They have dominated the Western Conference with their big 3, Parker, Ginobili, and Duncan, for the past decade. Unlike in today's basketball, the Spurs' didn't go out and buy the best players in the NBA to form a super team, they built their team through the draft. This makes their success even more impressive.
The Spurs have maintained their strong foundation by making good draft picks like Thiago Splitter and Cory Joseph, and trading for young talent like Danny Green and Kawhi Leonard.
However, the Spurs' original superstars are growing old. Tony Parker is now 31 years old, Manu Ginobili is 36, and Tim Duncan is 37. They showed their age last season when they hobbled through the regular season. The Spurs battled injury after injury until they eventually healed up to make a playoff run and nearly beat the Miami Heat in the finals.
Even with all the injuries and having struggled all season to get their superstars on the court at the same time, the Spurs finished the regular season with a record of 58-24, which was good for 2nd in the West. They find a way each year to be successful and I don't see them falling off anytime soon.
