Delino DeShields Jr. Will Transition Back To The Outfield

Astros reporter Brian McTaggert broke the news today that Delino DeShields would be participating in the Arizona Fall League, and while there he will transition back to the outfield. Drafted originally as an outfielder, The Astros converted the fleet footed DeShields to second base immediately. He profiled as an average defender, and by his third full season at the position, Jonathon Mayo gave him a 5 grade at the second bag. DDJ's arm won't play in right, and George Springer has center-field on lockdown, therefore, it's safe to assume he will see the majority of his reps in left field. DeShields doesn't profile as a prototypical corner outfielder, but convention be damned. With the Altuve extension, I figured it was only a matter of time before DDJ was moved, and I'm glad they did so sooner rather than later. Delino should have no trouble converting back to the outfield, and I look for him to eventually be a plus defender in left. A very exciting outfield comprised of DDJ, Springer, and Santana would cover a serious amount of ground. DDJ's move comes as good news to me.
