The 'Stros edged out the Cubbies today by the score of 4-3. The win moved the Astros to 29-47 overall, and pushed them to 19-17 in their last 36. Hmmmm, that's weird, hardly a team that's damaging the integrity of the game of baseball. Hardly a team that was previously considered to be one of the worst teams ever assembled. I digress, the 'Stros gave up 2 in the third to the Cubs, and then another in the fifth, however only 2 of the runs were earned. Matty D (throwing error) and Corp (Pickoff attempt) netted the two errors on the day, Corp's advancing a runner to third in the third inning, the runner later scored. The Astros later responded in the sixth inning, with two men on, J.D. Martinez launched a three run bomb out of Wrigley to knot the game at three a piece. The score would remain there until the ninth, where the Astros manufactured a run via sac bunt to move Justin Maxwell, whom led off the inning with a double, to third with one out. Ronny Cedeno then performed the safety squeeze to perfection, giving the Astros a one run lead, a la NL baseball run production. Jose "V" Veras then came on to retire the first three men he saw in the bottom half of the ninth giving the Astros the W.
Pitching:
Travis Wood, who received a no decision, started for the Cubs and held a line of 6 innings, 5 hits, 3 earned runs, with one walk, and 5 K's. Bud Norris was on the bump for the Astros today finishing with a no-decision and a line of 6 innings, 6 hits, 2 earned runs, 3 walks, and 5 K's. Jose Cisnero was called upon to start the seventh, he cruised through that portion of the game and came back out for the eighth. He ran into some trouble, and lost the zone, loading the bases with two outs, before fighting back from a 3-1 count against Darwin Barney to induce a fly ball to center. Jose "V" Veras then came on to pitch for team shut it down, and slam the door. Giving Astros pitching the line of 9 innings, 2 earned runs, 5 walks, and six K's.
Hitting:
The bats went rather quite tonight for the large portion of the night, leaving 10 men on base, collecting 6 hits in total. Timely hitting was, partially, the story of the night. J.D. finished with a line of 1-4 W/ 3 RBI and a bomb, Altuve finished with a line of 2-3, a run, a walk, and a stolen base. It was also encouraging to see Justin Maxwell with a line of 2-4 W/ a run scored. Go 'Stros!!!
Gametime Tomorrow:
The Astros and en fuego Jordan Lyles (4-1, 3.22) take on the Cubs and Notre Dame great Jeff Samardzija (4-7, 3.35) at 1:10 Central time for the rubber game in the series. Win The Damn Series!
VS.
(Good Look Jeff)
