Kubiak Letting Ed Reed Decide If He Plays Or Not

Even if he doesn't start the season opener, a good beard never hurts..

Speculation has been ongoing for quite some time now as to whether Ed Reed will start the season on the field for the Texans or if he will just be another coach on the sidelines. Just last week Kubiak decided to leave that decision in the hands of Ed Reed himself. This is a fairly unusual decision for a coach to make but this is not the first time this has happened in the NFL by any means. It makes sense in the case of Ed Reed seeing as he is one of the most tenured players in the league right now and he obviously knows his body better than anyone else does. I'll go ahead and take this time to take a shot at Ozzie Newsome, GM for the Ravens, whom I firmly believe was more aware of Reed's condition than he let on. I digress, the past is the past and I'm happy that we have Ed on our squad. Just don't think that I will forget how much of a disgrace the Ravens organization as a whole is.

Honestly, I feel much more comfort knowing that this decision is falling upon Ed Reed instead of the coaches or another team doctor. It's nice knowing that we don't have to deal with the controversy that teams such as the Redskins have had to endure all offseason with various doctors giving varying opinions. While it is certainly disconcerting that Reed has yet to practice or play with the Texans since signing, I have faith that he will make every effort to be on the field for us come Week 1. Even if he isn't up to the task, his leadership will be extremely valuable to the team. With half-witted guys such as Shiloh Keo taking the field for the Texans, we need all of the coaching we can get for that secondary.
