After Jarred Cosart's start tonight against the Mariners, Brian McTaggert tweeted that the Houston Astros had shut down Cosart for the remainder of the season....

Cosart's 5 innings of, 6 walk, 3 strikeout, no earned run baseball put a cap on his 2013 campaign, bringing his yearly inning total to 153, a career high. Jarred finished the season logging 60 major league innings, a 1-1 record, and a superb 1.95 ERA. Considering he had posted his highest inning total in a season as a professional and the fatigue he's seemed to have shown over his last three starts and tonight in particular, it doesn't come as much of a surprise that the Astros are taking out a little insurance on the fireballing right arm of 23 year old Cosart. Jarred's inaugural stint in the show was the first time an Astros fan could be legitimately excited about the future in a long while, and he flashed several glimpses of brilliance. I can honestly say his marvelous major league debut was the first time in a long time that i've watched an Astros game and felt there was truly something on the line in the outcome of the game. Jarred Cosart brought upon the first taste of anxious nerve I've felt in the pit of my gut, reminiscent to that of watching October baseball with a playoff bid on the line, in several years as an Astros fan. The League City native added to the rich tapestry of hard throwing arms to don the Astros uniform, and there are several behind him waiting in the wings down on the farm. Although David Martinez, or Lucas Harrell would be more likely to fill the void in the rotation, it would certainly be nice to see another highly touted arm in Asher Wojciehowski get the call-up considering the OKC season is over. Please do us all that solid, Sir Luhnow! Although I won't go into his advanced metrics and breakdown of his mechanics at this time, I will do so after the season wraps. Jarred Cosart was a breath of fresh air and reason for optimism regarding the future in the midst of another horrid Astros campaign. Look for the Astros to send the future cornerstone to the hill on opening day come next year.
