As of yesterday, Quad Cities Times reporter Steve Batterson tweeted out that Lance McCullers had been placed on the Temporarily inactive list. This will most likely shut the door on McCullers' fine 2013 campaign, leaving his innings total at 104 IP. In his first full season of pro-ball, Lance absolutely dealt, especially previous to the all-star break. This comes as a bit of surprise considering that the front office never really talked about a specific innings limit on McCullers, but at the same time it was to be expected that one existed for the 19 year old. Although I haven't heard Jeff Luhnow confirm the move yet, I'm completely on board, The Astros are wisely trying to protect their investment and insure the arm of the second year pro remains a healthy one. There are many positives to take from his first stint in full season, and many a reason to look fondly upon the future that Lance McCullers has in store. Below are his sparkling 2013 numbers via baseball-reference and a beautiful display of his ability to induce the groundball courtesy of mlbfarm.com.

Needs to lower the WHIP
ReplyDeleteThe walks are certainly a concern, but if he maintains his GB rate and keeps his HR/9 very low he should be alright in my opinion.
