One Small Step For The Major League Roster, One Giant Leap For The Rebuild

Starting in right field is a beacon of hope. After a hot start in AAA OKC hitting for a slash line of .319/.429/.574  in 47 at bats, the front office brass had no choice but to call the 24 year old right fielder up. Thank you very much Jeff Luhnow. George's long awaited call to join the good guys is most certainly sweet, and it serves as foreshadowing for the wave and infusion of talent to come at the major league level. Jarred Cosart knocked this previous season, and a few years from now the likes of Lance McCullers, Carlos Correa, Mark Appel, Jon Singleton, Mike Foltynewicz, Delino Deshields, Vincent Velasquez, and Domingo Santana will kick down the door, all donning Astros orange and navy. Although the previous three seasons have been horrendous and likely hazardous in regards to health for those of us who still tune in to watch the good guys play on a regular basis, the light at the end of the tunnel is now something tangible with George Springer's presence on the big club.

The importance of George Springer cannot be overstated. George is the promise of the good times to come. He represents the reason that your Houston Astros initiated the dumpster fire as soon as the new regime took office. Yes, it would be massive for George to fulfill the profile projected and for him to reach his ceiling, But the idea of George Springer may be even more powerful in a V for Vendetta-esque sense. The idea that the Astros have completely committed to internal development, the idea that George Springer and the rest of the farmhands represent, is a promise that for the foreseeable future the Astros will never again scrape the bottom of the barrel. Although it remains to be seen how much ownership is willing to spend at the major league level, we know that the model is in place, and in the worst case scenario the Astros will be set up in such a manner as the Tampa Bay Rays, not too shabby a club mind you. In the best case, the Astros would be modeled in a such a manner as the St. Louis Cardinals, a club that will produce upper tier talent, and has pocketbooks deep enough to make a splash and extend internally as well. With Jon Singleton, Mike Foltynewicz, Asher Wojciechowski, and Max Stassi set to come up this year, the play will be spotty, but overall much more sound in general. It's been said 1,00 times before, but it's going to happen. The good guys are going to return to form and they won't be able to put up playoff and championship banners fast enough. The Astros are going to be good, and they are going to stay good. No more of this perennial bottom dwelling, and no more slander will have to be endured from the naysayers. George Springer, like most of the call-ups will likely struggle at first, and they may be over matched, but they will adjust and they win baseball games by the bunches. Patience my friends, the kids are coming, and the greatest of them may already be here. Long live King George!
