Houston, We Have A Schaublem

The Houston Texans were clobbered 34-3 in yet again another embarrassing primetime game. This time it was in San Francisco on Sunday Night Football. When writing this post my intention was for it to be a recap of yesterdays game, but it will probably turn in to a rant of why I believe QB Matt Schaub and head coach Gary Kubiak both need to go for this team to stand any chance at success.
Kubiak made it clear heading in to the game that the Texans had a plan and were sticking to it. Unfortunately for all us Houston fans out there, he should've made some big changes. Matt "Pick 6" Schaub started the game with as you guessed it, a Pick 6! 49ers cornerback Tremaine Brock read Schaub's first pass with ease, returned the ball for a touchdown, and that was pretty much the tone of the entire game. Three picks and a bunch of 49ers touchdowns later, Kubiak finally decided to bench Schaub and play backup QB TJ Yates in the 4th quarter. We can't  judge Yates' performance because he really wasn't given any opportunity to make a play happen. He only was able to throw a few shuffle passes and keep the ball on the ground. Although I will say we have to give him credit for not throwing a pick! In post-game interviews Kubiak made it clear that Matt Schaub is still the Texans QB and most Houstonians aren't happy. Many are calling for former University of Houston star QB Case Keenum to get some playing time. He’s young, mobile and has a strong arm. He certainly couldn’t play any worse than Schaub is right now.
What it all boils down to is that Matt Schaub has become the most predictable quarterback in the league and defenses are absolutely taking advantage of his vital mistakes. What bothers me the most about Schaub’s situation is that when Houston wins Schaub talks a lot about the things "I" did great, but when the Texans lose he uses the word "WE" a lot! Kubiak also mentioned during the game that Schaub wasn’t his biggest problem of the night. That’s actually laughable. The defense can only stay fresh for so long! JJ Watt, Brian Cushing, Antonio Smith and company were worn down and we have to presume they are even more frustrated than us fans are. The bind the Texans have themselves in isn't fair to this defense, veteran WR Andre Johnson, or the city of Houston.
