Two More Astros Hurlers Shut Down For The Year

Monday the Astros officially announced that Mark Appel, and Andrew Thurman have been shut down for the season. This comes as no surprise as Appel and Thurman have logged upwards of over 140 innings including their collegiate campaigns. Appel and Thurman both saw successful debut seasons. During his stint in Tri-City, Thurman owned a 3.73 FIP through 39 IP, along with a K/9 of 9.76, and a BB/9 of 2.5. Reports from the Tri-City coaching staff state that Andrew was tossing in the mid-90's and improving quite well. Although Thurman wasn't producing many ground balls, Andrew must be hitting his spots well considering his near perfect spray chart. First overall choice in the 2013 draft, Mark Appel threw very well, boasting a 3.26 FIP in 33 innings of work at Quad Cities, while inducing groundballs at over a 2:1 ratio. As previously posted in a write up here, Lance McCullers season came to a close as well. Lance had a remarkable season, just toying with the Midwest League in his first taste of full season ball. Although the big three will still attend games and likely travel with the teams, Luhnow confirmed they will no longer be participating in games. Here is a look at the solid numbers put up by Appel and Thurman via baseball-reference, and a bit more in-depth info on their results courtesy of mlbfarm.com. Check out McCullers numbers here in a previous posting...
