Welcome To The Show Kid

Jarred Cosart made his major league debut in a very big way Friday night. The kid just absolutely freaking dealt. Painted corners like Picasso with heat ranging from 93-97, and spotted up rather well with his curve, which should be illegal in most states. In the most anticipated Astros debut since Jordan Lyles in 2011, Jarred Cosart took a no-no into 6 1/3 innings of baseball. Ben Zobrist, a former Astros farmhand, broke up the bid with one out in the 7th on a sharp liner just inches past an outstretched Jose Altuve. He proceeded to induce a 5-4-3 roll 'em up double play, which he got three of tonight, on the very next hitter to end the frame. Jarred threw 8 strong, and came back out for the ninth to finish the deed. He proceeded to walk the lead-off man, and after 96 pitches and 8 innings of 2 hit, 3 walk, 2 strikeout, shutout baseball, Bo came out for the hook. Cosart walked off the mound to the applause of Rays fans at Tropicana and into the Astros dugout where not a single ass was seated. The debut was arguably the best the Astros have had outside of JR Richards 15 K rookie performance.

Immediately after the game, Cosart was optioned back to AAA to make room on the 25 man roster for Justin Maxwell. On the surface the move seems asinine, but it was the right move to make. By sending Cosart back down he stays on his regular every 5th day routine, and gets to participate in the PCL all-star game instead of sitting on his ass and collecting dust until, and during the major league all-star break. Bo, Brocail, Luhnow and the figureheads on the baseball side of operations will convene during the all-star break to determine who will slot into the fifth starter role, this is assuming Norris, Harrell, or Bedard don't get moved, which there's a relatively high chance one of them does, and after his showing today i'd venture to say Cosart has a pretty strong shot. My goodness the future burns brighter than 1000 suns. Sunglasses are encouraged, polarized industrial strength if you will. A welders mask wouldn't be overkill. Go 'Stros!
