Friday, the Astros signed sidearm/low three quarter delivery man Peter Moylan to a minor league contract with an invite to major league spring training. The signing kick starts the Astros off-season, one in which the good guys are rumored to open their pocket books to the tune of bumping the payroll in the neighborhood of 50 million. The 34 year old is an 8 year veteran with pro-longed successful stints in the big show. Coming off a down year, and a couple previous inactive ones due to a back and a shoulder surgery, this buy low deal is a good one for the Astros, very low risk with a high ceiling based on his previous success. The reliever will likely be one of several late inning hurlers signed in an attempt to bolster the bullpen, one that was historically bad during the 2013 campaign. The seasoned veteran will at the least show young guys like Josh Fields, Josh Zeid, Kevin Chapman, Jose Cisnero, and Rhiner Cruz the ropes and set a good example by further exposing them to the mentality and actions of a successful major league relief man.
